SENSATIONALISM
INTRODUCTION:
In this tab, we are going to talk about sensationalism, if you don't know what it means, don't worry, we will provide you a short and simple definition of sensationalism, so you can understand better, we will show some real-life examples of sensationalism and give an explanation of each one.
DEFINITION: Sensationalism is when the media over exaggerates words to get the attention of the public and readers. By doing this, they don’t tell the whole truth or the whole story.
These three images are talking about Hillary's collapse when she was in the 9/11 memorial. They all mention that she has a double or making a big deal about her having pneumonia. These are all sensationalism because they are all exaggerating the news in the headlines just to drag the attention of the readers. The title of the first article makes the news pretty obvious that they're sensationalist, the last one is pretty ridiculous, they are making up that Hillary has a double because of her disease.
This is sensationalist because it is kind of ridiculous what this news papers is publishing just to get people's attention. They want the people to see the "funny" video about an owner and instead of just writing horse falls asleep on its owner, they make the title more appealing which will make the readers become interested in the article.
This article is also sensationalist because if you see the letters in blue, they are in blue, capitalized and bold, which is going to draw attention, which will make you want to continue reading the article and find out what happened and how the story continues. These people are not even that famous, which makes the writer use words that have to be very interesting so that people will become interested in it.
This piece of news is even funny, this woman is talking about a breakdown she had over an year ago. This article uses the same way that the article before, big colored letters to draw attention to the readers. This is sensationalist because these news are not relevant, but they still draw your attention because of the words the title uses. The headline is also pretty appealing because they use quotation marks.
This last article is sensationalized because, again, big colored letters before providing the rest of the information. The writer was pretty wise with the selection of words because they played with them and using those techniques, they drew attention to the readers.
CONCLUSION:
Searching for the examples, we found hundreds of them that are sensationalist, which is actually really sad and bad because there are some people that actually want to find out what is really happening in the world and they expect to know the truth when they read newspapers and watch the news.
