DUTY OF CARE SPEECHES:
Good evening ladies and gentleman, today, I have the pleasure to express my thoughts and feelings about mass media and the duty of care of the media.
First of all, I would like to explain a little bit of media’s role in spreading news today. Media is in charge of everything that gets published, especially news, it is very important in today’s society and it has changed gradually over the years. Media is responsible for informing and keep society updated on worldwide news. Nowadays, most of the media is owned by big companies that have the power to manipulate the information. I am really upset at how the media is spreading information. I am a citizen who is interested in reading news articles and I don’t want to be researching about the topic because maybe the newspaper or news channel is censoring or being bias with the information. There are some newspapers that you can’t even trust anymore, most of their information is censored because they might be owned by the government or someone bribed them to tell one side of the story. The worst thing is, this is not recent it has happened ever since mass media began, newspapers getting censored, stories being sensationalized and news or newspapers being bias. I even think this is embarrassing for the companies who own the media, they only care about making money by telling the world news that are sometimes sensationalized just to make more money out of it. They don’t even care about telling the news anymore. Another subject that really bothers me is how the journalists work today, they do everything for the money, they don’t have the objective of making people receive the news anymore, they only say what they are told to say. The news that are published today are just to distract people, the media always finds a way to distract people from the real problems and focus them on news or things that are not relevant.
I think that that the media has an obvious duty of care. Its duty is HUGE, the media is what makes the news get to us, it is the only way for the society to be informed. The media should be very careful with everything that gets published. Thanks to the media we all receive the information about everything, especially news.
I hope that through my speech, listeners have understood my point of view or taken into consideration how manipulated our society has become mainly by mass media and the government I also hope I am not the only one who thinks this way and who cares about these subjects. Thank you for listening.
